Porsche 993 Twin‑Turbo Build Update – Paint, Mock‑Up, and Next Steps

Porsche 993 Twin‑Turbo Build Update – Paint, Mock‑Up, and Next Steps

Our 993 twin‑turbo project has been deep in the “not very Instagrammable” phase for a while – metal work, paint, test‑fits, and a lot of measuring. In this update, you finally get to see the car starting to come back together.

This video covers where the 993 sits before the custom front bumper and final exterior pieces go on. It’s the in‑between stage: more than a bare shell, not yet a finished car.

Fresh paint and body coming together

At this point in the build, the car has:

  • Been stripped and taken down to bare metal
  • Gone through body prep to straighten and correct old issues
  • Received its new orange paint that completely changes the personality of the car

In the update, you’ll see:

  • Panels starting to go back on
  • Gaps and alignment being dialed in
  • How the color works in real light now that it’s on the full shell, not just a sample panel

This is where the 993 starts looking like a car again instead of a long‑term science experiment.

Mock‑up before final aero and trim

Before we commit to final assembly, we always do a mock‑up stage:

  • Test fitting panels, lights, seals, and trim
  • Making sure everything plays nice together with the upcoming custom pieces
  • Checking clearances we’ll need for intercooler ducting, exhaust, and heat management

You’ll see the 993 sitting on its feet with the main body together, but still missing the custom front bumper and final aero touches you’ve seen in later updates.

Engine, turbos, and suspension – quick status check

While the video focuses on body and mock‑up, the rest of the car hasn’t been sitting still:

  • The twin‑turbo engine build is progressing off‑camera
  • Suspension components and hardware are being prepped to match the power and intent of the build
  • Wheel fitment and stance are being planned so everything works visually and functionally once the car is together

This is the “measure twice, cut once” phase that makes the final assembly go faster and with fewer surprises.

What’s next for the 993

From here, the major milestones are:

  • Finalizing and mounting the custom front bumper and aero
  • Integrating intercoolers and ducting behind that new front end
  • Pulling the engine/turbo/suspension pieces together
  • Getting the car on the ground for real testing, tuning, and shakedowns

If you’ve been following along from bare shell to this point, this update is your proof that the 993 is over the hump – the next episodes are where it becomes the car we’ve had in our heads since day one.
