If you own a 2019+ Porsche Cayenne and you’ve already dealt with random battery warnings, no‑start situations, or a big “battery system” quote from the dealer, you’re running into a very common lithium battery problem.
Porsche went lithium on these trucks for weight and packaging reasons, but the real‑world result has been a lot of unhappy owners.
In this post (and the video above), we show you how we fix the issue in our shop with a lithium‑to‑AGM conversion kit and OBD coding dongle – the same solution we use on Cayenne, 992, Urus, and Bentayga.
What’s going wrong with the Cayenne lithium battery?
Many 2019+ Cayenne models left the factory with a lithium battery setup that:
- Is very sensitive to age, heat, and usage patterns
- Throws intermittent warnings and electrical system errors
- Can leave you with a no‑start or unreliable car
- Comes with very expensive lithium replacement quotes from the dealer
You didn’t buy a Cayenne to treat it like a project car, but the factory battery system can make it feel that way.
Our solution: Lithium‑to‑AGM conversion kit
Instead of throwing more money at a fragile lithium setup, we convert the Cayenne to a conventional 92Ah AGM battery and recode the vehicle to work with it properly.
🔧 Buy the kit here:
What the kit includes
- Hardware to mount and connect a 92Ah AGM battery in place of the lithium unit
- OBD configuration dongle that automatically updates the car’s coding from lithium to AGM
- Support from a shop that’s actually done this on real customer Cayennes
The hardware fixes the physical side. The dongle fixes the software side so the car knows it’s now running an AGM battery and manages it correctly.
How the conversion works (high level)
-
Install the AGM battery
- Remove the factory lithium unit.
- Install the 92Ah AGM battery using the kit hardware.
-
Plug in the OBD dongle
- Connect the dongle to the car’s OBD port.
- It automatically recodes the vehicle from lithium to AGM.
-
Remove the dongle
- Once coding is complete, unplug the dongle.
- No need to leave anything plugged in permanently.
-
Drive the car
- The electrical management system now treats the AGM like it was factory‑installed – no hacked wiring, no ongoing software fights.
Why not just let the dealer handle it?
You can. But:
- Dealer “solutions” often mean very expensive lithium parts + labor
- You stay on the same battery architecture that caused the issue
- You’re betting on a system that’s already proven fragile in the real world
Our approach:
- Moves the Cayenne to a robust, serviceable AGM battery platform
- Properly recodes the car so it behaves like it should have from the factory
- Has real mileage behind it on Cayennes, 992s, Urus, and Bentayga
Is the AGM conversion right for your Cayenne?
If you:
- Own a 2019+ Cayenne and have already had lithium battery issues, or
- Are looking at buying one and want to fix the weak link before it strands you
…then yes, this is exactly who the kit is for.
If you’re unsure about your specific year/model or options, reach out and we’ll confirm compatibility before you order.
