With a full 3-inch X-Pipe in either valve operating condition, that wonderful high-pitched flat-six sound comes to life but can be suppressed when necessary. Combined with Competition or Resonated Over Axle Pipes, that sound can be further amplified along with a boost in performance by uncorking that factory bottleneck. It is a complete package for those who truly want it all. Unfortunately, there was more that it came with: drone.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo drivers who opt for the civility of a Valved Exhaust System, excess drone is not an acceptable byproduct. The GT4 RS’ potent 4.0-liter flat-six brings plenty of it, especially once we’ve turned up the volume on it. Instead of just accepting defeat, we went after a solution, even as it required several evolutions and plenty of testing. Our design of “drone canisters” was finalized and installed as it successfully hit the volume requirements we calculated to target the drone frequencies in the low-to-mid 2,000 RPM range, shifting the drone zone down the rev range and reducing peak frequencies significantly. Our Street Package pairs our Valved Exhaust System with our Over Axle Pipes for a remarkable change in character and volume with valves open, but drone reduced as much as possible with valves closed for as civilized a cruising experience as we could develop—especially driven in Sport mode where the optimal shift points during typical driving are outside the peak “drone zone.” This package allows the OAPs to be optioned as Competition or Resonated, with the Competition selection offering more overall sound level potential with valves open, closer to the Race Exhaust Package. The Resonated version allows for a more modest sound level potential, additionally reducing the drone level at lower revs and producing a smoother tone. By pursuing a full system replacement we can eliminate the restrictive cat assemblies, the particulate filters, and the giant 7 ⅝ connection point to the factory rear muffler assembly. A muffler proved to be the most effective way to reduce the drone level under 3k rpm enough to meet our goals for reduced cabin presence for an exciting touring level of sound. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWith valves open, exhaust is free to flow through 3” piping and an x-pipe that merges the exhaust flow for a higher pitched, smooth sound with maximum flow characteristics. With valves closed the exhaust is routed through secondary flow path piping and a bespoke SOUL muffler. The internal design has little to no restriction in the flow path, using straight-through perforated piping to allow exhaust gasses to escape and become muffled in the surrounding packing material of the muffler body. The muffler also incorporates an internal x-pipe to allow the exhaust flow to merge smoothly. All of these characteristics are crucial towards reducing and smoothing out the drone in the sub 3,000rpm range while enhancing the higher pitched note we were after in both the valves closed and open conditions.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe catted\/catless sections are interchangeable. You can reduce the chance of CELs with 200cell cats and tone down the exhaust if need be, or you can run the catless section to amp up the fun and performance on track. The actuators themselves are what keep the tension on the valve bodies, so you can’t take them off and have the valves default open via spring pressure like previous vacuum actuated OEM valves.
