We’ve set out to create an exhaust with a true Jekyll and Hyde personality that matches perfectly with the persona of the Carrera – a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Our first priority was to design the system so that with valves open, exhaust gases would have a straight flow path. By using a larger tubing diameter, smooth radius bends and proper X-pipe crossover flow characteristics (improving exhaust scavaging effects, leading to increased volumetric efficiency), our system improves throttle response and performance drastically over the restrictive factory sport exhaust.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eDEVELOPMENT AND TESTING:  \u003c\/b\u003eOur aim was to refine the level of daily driving comfort without sacrificing the race inspired tone and straight-through exhaust design. A larger resonator would not yield the results we are looking for while requiring some revisions for clearances – this could compromise the high flow design principles of our exhaust. Adding higher flowing aftermarket headers – like our\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/soulpp.com\/product\/porsche-991-1-carrera-long-tube-street-headers\/\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eLong Tube Street Headers\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e – to an aggressive rear system without proper sound attenuating features could result in a overly loud, possibly unpleasant driving experience. Nearly 40% of our customers paired their rear exhaust with upgraded headers making it imperative that we consider such a configuration and engineer the exhaust appropriately. Helmholtz resonators (also known as anti-drone tubes) are an effective way to reduce undesirable frequencies when engineered and utilized correctly.  The 991.1 Carrera has an inherent 3,000-3,500 RPM range where drone can present itself when you add higher flowing exhaust components. All in all, we’re very happy with the results and we’re sure you will be too! With valves open, the free flowing nature of the system allows for a Cup car inspired sound – greater volume with a greater amount of crackles and burbles on deceleration.  This system is for those who want added aggression at the press of a button. When the valves are closed it creates a quiet yet rich experience, ideal for low-profile cruising or adhering to strict track sound limits. Opening the valves unlocks a larger 3″ primary flow path, maximizing performance while producing a bold tone.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe factory exhaust design presents limited space for incorporating a muffler into the secondary flow path. Simply reducing tubing diameter to manage sound levels would have a minimal impact, so we took a more innovative approach. We start our secondary flow path with smaller piping which flows into oversized resonators. These resonators work in harmony to significantly suppress sound levels, smooth out unwanted drone, and cancel exhaust pulses, resulting in a subdued and refined exhaust note at low RPMs. Despite the reduced sound levels in this configuration, the overall flow is still improved over the factory muffler, delivering a seamless blend of enhanced performance and discreet operation. When it’s time to turn up the theatrics, the system’s engaging sound profile is just a switch away.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo ensure a tangible delta between valves open and valves closed, we deviated from our traditional blended x-pipe design as we found that didn’t provide enough volume when combined with a secondary flow path. The turndown tips themselves are held on to the resonator assemblies by vband clamps and are optional to run. Unlike slip on turndowns that seat themselves to exhaust piping after heat cycled, the vband clamps allow for easy loosening of the tips at any time to point them away from sound recording equipment.
