In order to understand the function of the Breakaway Camber Plate, lets first examine why GT cars are prone to strut tower failure:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ePorsche strut towers are made of die cast aluminum. This material is very strong, rigid, and lightweight, but possesses very little ductility and does not typically bend under severe impacts.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ePorsche GT cars are lower than Carrera models, and therefore have reduced suspension travel. Reduced suspension travel increases the likelihood of the suspension bottoming out, and experiencing severe impact.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ePorsche GT cars have solid spherical bearing camber plates from the factory. These solid spherical bearings do not have any bushings to dampen impacts, so all strut loads are transferred directly to the shock towers.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eMore importantly, the OEM GT camber plates are extremely robust. In the event of a massive impact such as a pothole, the OEM camber plate does not bend or crack, it is MUCH stronger than the strut towers. Under normal operating conditions, the camber plate offers a direct solid connection between the struts and the strut towers, as you would expect from a track oriented GT product. However, unlike any other product on the market, RR Racing camber plates essentially sacrifice themselves in case of an impact, allowing the integrated elastomer bushing to absorb the impact and protect the strut towers. The root cause of the problem are the massive impact loads associated with bottoming out of the suspension, and the inability of the stock camber plate or strut tower to absorb the impact and deflect. In many cases, upper reinforcement plates can theoretically help, but often times they simply transfer loads to other failure prone areas of the strut tower. When the GT suspension bottoms out, the strut towers experience a metal-on-metal impact event without any deflection of the camber plate or the strut tower. Factory alignment adjustments on most Porsches are limited to approximately 1.0-1.5 degrees of negative camber, while most track cars (depending on the amount of street use and tire compound) require at least double that to maximize handling and tire life.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is important to realize that individual goals change from build to build, especially as a car becomes more and more track dedicated. This Stage 2 package consists of the essentials – staples in suspension setup that will always be used for getting the camber\/caster\/toe settings no matter how aggressive you end up going. The control arms in this kit come with the necessary adjustable caster bushings to reduce the caster, increase the clearance in this area, and allow for additional negative camber.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThe factory rear control arms themselves typically have enough factory adjustment to run an appropriate amount of rear camber to compliment the potential front camber with aftermarket control arms, up until at most 2.5 degrees. However, as you increase rear camber you begin running out of thread engagement on the rear toe links and this becomes the limiting factory on rear camber.
